All planters are wedged into a ball from a clay block and thrown on the wheel. Once the planter is centered, I pull the walls up to the height and then form it into its shape. I then will dry it a little with the propane torch and the take it off the wheel to dry overnight so I can flip it upside down onto the wheel head and trim the bottom. This allows me to give it its final shape and smooth out the sides of the wall. Up next is to drill the drain hole and stamp the bottoms with my logo, dry completely over a few days and then bisque fire. Once the kiln is cool, I’ll wipe off the clay dust from the pot and glaze the outside and then glaze fire the planter. I do not glaze the inside so that the roots have something to grab onto as the plant grows, as well as soaking up water moisture so the plant does not suffer from root rot. The final step is the sand to bottom into a smooth surface and wash the planter. The planter is now ready to fill with some beautiful plants.
